Keep on rising

From the discovery of early AIDS cases to the creation of numerous FDA-approved cancer treatments, UCLA Health has a long history of medical firsts. Despite this heritage, the brand was losing ground to rivals like Cedars-Sinai, and many Los Angeles residents were unaware of what made it unique. UCLA Health needed a clearer perspective and a stronger public presence during a period when science, research, and academic institutions were under scrutiny.

I was a member of the brand creative team that helped launch the rebrand and support its rollout across a sizable, rapidly expanding company with over 40,000 employees.

CHALLENGE
This was more than a visual update. The brand had to honor decades of innovation, bring together a vast health system, and remain relevant in a crowded, cutthroat healthcare market. Under strict deadlines and intense scrutiny, the work had to scale swiftly and precisely across hundreds of touchpoints. Correctness and consistency were important, particularly when working across departments and with external agencies.

SOLUTION
I created a variety of deliverables for both digital and physical platforms to assist with the launch. As various teams came online, I worked on digital advertisements, out-of-home billboards and posters, email templates, car wraps, presentation templates, and partnership materials. As the system was implemented at scale, a large portion of the work required quick turnaround times and close teamwork to help translate the new brand into understandable, practical components that teams could rely on.
