Designing with dignity, symbolism without stigma

I was contracted by a California-based marketing and public relations agency to design the logo for Collaborative to End Human Trafficking—a public awareness campaign focused on education and prevention in Orange County. The creative challenge was to develop a visual identity that conveyed the seriousness of the issue without using distressing or triggering imagery. The final mark became the foundation of the campaign’s visual system, enabling the agency to build a broader set of materials rooted in clarity, empathy, and impact.

CHALLENGE
Design a mark that addresses the reality of human trafficking without relying on dark, graphic, or stereotypical visual tropes. The identity needed to communicate urgency and restraint—something that could educate, advocate, and respect survivors.

SOLUTION
By reducing the concept to a symbol of restricted freedom, I created a mark that told the story clearly and sensitively. The design avoided literal visuals in favor of abstraction—allowing space for interpretation while anchoring the campaign in visual integrity. The final logo became the foundation for the agency's more extensive visual system.
